How it all began
(& how it’s going …)
My mom will tell just about anyone …
that I came out of the womb coloring. Creativity has always been a leading force in my life and my hands were always covered in something - paint, pencil lead, glue, glitter, you name it. (Think lots of collages and hand-drawn portraits of my favorite indie rock icons, lol!)
Cut to junior high …
where my best friend’s quilter extraordinaire of a mom taught me how to use a sewing machine and how to make my first quilt. I didn’t know it then, but a seed was planted that would grow into a fiber-loving obsession later on down the road.
Fast forward to 2008 …
I’m off to East Carolina University and thinking that I’m headed toward a degree in graphic design. I got a job in the production design department at the school’s newspaper and everything – I was that sure I was gonna be a graphic designer!
But one fateful workshop …
led by the Textile Art Guild collaging fabric together into couture bags and I knew I had to pivot. That textile-loving seed planted by sweet Connie years before was in bloom and I never looked back.
I received my BFA in Surface Design …
where I learned classic and modern techniques of fiber manipulation and the skillsets to think beyond them. 12+ years of my creative practice and my unrelenting curiosity to keep evolving my techniques makes for the fiber art that you see in my portfolio and shop today.
And when I’m not in the studio?
You can find me on an outdoor patio of one of my favorite downtown Durham bars getting lost in a steamy romance novel or laughing loudly with my pals.
