“Use What You Have” Collection

USE WHAT YOU HAVE

A behind-the-scenes look at the making of my latest collection “Use What You Have”

The Landscape of Love

The time has come!
My favorite collection that I developed in 2025
is here for the world to see.

This collection made its initial debut in my 2025 6-month exhibit For, Alongside, Within at Triangle Community Foundation curated by the Durham Art Guild. I was so encouraged by the feedback and excitement that was provided in-person for those that could attend.

Since the show came down, I’ve been working on getting the pieces reframed and photographed and the day has finally come that I can share them with you!

The Concept:

My creative practice is largely driven by two things: my desire to have a zero-waste (or as little waste as possible!) studio and use/merge multiple textile techniques to create something totally new.

I take great strides in using up all the little bits of yarn and materials that I use, as well as attempt to make my artwork from secondhand or reclaimed materials. Use What You Have is my love letter to those concepts. I wanted to create a body of work with what I had– both in material and inner knowing– to potentially pave a new path for where my work will go.

The results of the forced improvising and palette combinations were more than I could have hoped for. The constant, directional changes in texture in the background of each piece is a result from using small balls of yarn that I reclaimed from other pieces of the past. Each time a ball of yarn ran out, I would change the direction of punching with the next one, which created the subtle, wave-like patterning.

Pieces included in this body of work are: Inner Knowing, Borrowed Hope, Entangled Joy, The Landscape of Love, and Thinking of a Place.
