Concept:
Present Over Past Series
While creating this work, I was listening to The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. This incredibly thoughtful novel speaks to the layers of memory that we hold onto— the present layered over the past. Sometimes we don’t know what the true past was because our present self may be clouding what really happened.
The undulating roots of fiber growing out and separating throughout this work to reveal the colorful depths beneath reminds me of what it’s like to dig through the roots of our memories to see the past through the present.
I believe this is a kick-off to a new body of work that I’m calling Present Over Past. Let’s see how it unfolds!
