Concept:
Like ginger serves as a palate cleanser between sushi rolls, fringe is my palate cleanser between bodies of work. Life has been pretty chaotic in my neck of the woods this summer and I found myself feeling lost. This work was a way for me to face the chaos (fringe on fringe on fringe!). While working on this piece in my storage unit studio space, I got a visit from a sweet stranger who reminded me of the joy, light, hope and faith life can hold. I had forgotten my better self. Through words of encouragement, spoken truth and prayer she brought me back to a loving place. From that interaction, I was able to dig through the chaos and find myself hidden under all that fringe. “I’m Still Here” is an ode to that sweet woman who helped me dig out my soul and bring it into the light.
