This work is installed in a floating frame with a wired hanging mechanism for easy installation.
Concept:
My creative practice is largely driven by two things: my desire to have a zero-waste (or as little waste as possible!) studio and use/merge multiple textile techniques to create something totally new.
I take great strides in using up all the little bits of yarn and materials that I use, as well as attempt to make my artwork from secondhand or reclaimed materials. Use What You Have is my love letter to those concepts. I wanted to create a body of work with what I had– both in material and inner knowing– to potentially pave a new path for where my work will go.
The results of the forced improvising and palette combinations were more than I could have hoped for. The constant, directional changes in texture in the background of each piece is a result from using small balls of yarn that I reclaimed from other pieces of the past. Each time a ball of yarn ran out, I would change the direction of punching, which created the subtle, wave-like patterning.
